A couple in there late 70’s are in critical condition after the car they were traveling in smashed into the back of a stationary truck on the N3 between Harrismith and Warden.
Exact details of the accident is still speculative however it is purported that the aged couple was traveling back to their home in Guateng. They did not notice that the heavy goods vehicle was stationary on the highway and ploughed into the rear of the truck .
When paramedics arrived on scene they found the car wedged under the rear of the truck with the both patients trapped in crumpled wreckage. It took paramedics and emergency personnel nearly two hours to cut the patients free from twisted metal using the Jaws of Life.
After the couple was extricated paramedics worked fervently to stabilize them, the elderly lady had to be placed on a manual ventilator; thereafter both patients were transported by ambulance to a private hospital in Bethlehem for further treatment.
