International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) meeting to be held 10th December

level-crossings

As announced on 8th July, we are organising the follow-up meeting of the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) task force on 10th December at CER offices in Brussels (see map attached).

The idea is to set out the principles and common actions at a wide level building on ELCAD success and incorporating experience from outside Europe to make a success of ILCAD on 22nd June 2010, selected date to coordinate our efforts to address users behaviour at and around level crossings. We will particularly focus on the new logo/message to be delivered as well as a common press release and leaflets translated into various languages.

We will also have an opportunity to discuss with the European Commission a joint video-clip project targeting pedestrians and road users that was raised during the last task force meeting and eventually put forward some fundamental aspects to effectively tackle “calculated risks”, “familiarity” and “misevaluation of risks” that lead to unsafe use and therefore level crossing accidents.

Additionally, I would like to announce that the European Commission will organise a high-level workshop on “communicating good practices” including a half a day session on “Education of users” on 15th/16th April 2010 in Brussels, Belgium. We are currently drafting the agenda and preparing the content of this workshop and therefore it is quite important that to identify and promote the work that is being done by this unique task force of experts.

I would like to thank you once more for your kind cooperation and all the articles that were sent to me, and I am looking forward to receiving your comments/contributions on these above mentioned projects!

With best regards,
