Level crossing accident in Boksburg leaves two dead

level-crossing-accident

Two people died and another was critically injured when the car they were traveling in was struck by a train. Exact details to the cause of the accident is still a subject for police investigation, however it is believed that the Nissan car with 3 occupants was trying to get across the level crossing and misjudged the speed and distance of the train.

With the car trapped in front of the train they both hurtled down the railway line with the train driver desperately trying to stop. Both car and train came to rest about 150 meters down the track, the car by now was a mangled wreck and partially trapped beneath the train.

Emergency services arrived on scene and found that two of the occupants from the car , a male and a female sadly passed away due to the severity of there injuries. Paramedics had to use the jaws of life to free them from the twisted metal. The third occupant from the car miraculously survived the ordeal but had sustained critical injuries. He was treated on scene and then transported to a provincial hospital for further treatment.
