Police officer critically injured in accident

A police officer is in a critical condition after a car struck him on the N1 south between Murray hill and Hammanskraal last night at around 23h00. It is believed that the police vehicle went off the road and got stuck in the mud. The officer was trying to free the vehicle when another vehicle struck him.

Paramedics arrived on scene to find the officer in a critical condition as he sustained polytraumatic injuries. The condition was worsened by the severe weather, and emergency personnel had to work quickly to stabilize the critically injured man, and to remove him from the elements to prevent him from suffering the additional effects of hypothermia.

After stabilizing the man he was transported to the Netcare Montana hospital under the care of the Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic where a trauma team was standing by to take over his treatment .
