“One Girl, A Bicycle and One Big Dream”

jolandie-rust

Jolandie Rust’s (25) dream is to be the first woman to circumnavigate the African continent on a bicycle, thereby setting a world record as the first woman to do so.

Jolandie is an adventurer, musician and a girl with a zest for living life to the fullest. Brave, inspirational and spirited are just some of the words friends and fans have used to describe Jolandie.

In March 2008 Jolandie launched the first leg of her trip, cycling solo from Johannesburg to Cape Town. With great interest and some skepticism, the country looked on as she cycled, on her own, down to Cape Town. She made it to the Mother City in 18 days!

Now Jolandie has launched the second phase of her project, circumnavigating South Africa, solo, in order to raise enough awareness and funds for her to live her dream of cycling around the entire African continent.

Jolandie kicked off her circumnavigation of South Africa from Melville, Johannesburg on 3 October 2009. Cycling along the border to reach Richards Bay, along the KZN coast and entering the Eastern Cape, Jolandie reached Cape Town on 14 November, officially reaching the halfway mark, with 2724km’s behind her.

Jolandie left Cape Town after a few days rest and maintenance on 17 November. The trip back to Johannesburg, once complete, will see her having covered approximately 6000km in her solo circumnavigation of South Africa.

Jolandie will be returning to Johannesburg in mid-January 2010 where she will commence planning her circumnavigation of Africa.
