2 boys injured in freak accident in Umtentweni

Two 9 year old boys from Roodepoort were injured, one critically so, in a freak accident on the Natal south coast while on holiday this morning. It is believed that the boy’s tent was pitched under a large tree and while playing in their tent a branch from the tree broke and landed on top of them.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived to find that one of the boys sustained critical head and spinal injuries and the other boy escaped with minor lacerations. Paramedics worked fervently to stabilize the wounded ,and called for the Netcare 3 medical helicopter from Durban to airlift the critically injured boy to the Netcare st Augustine’s hospital for further medical care . The second patient was treated on scene and then left in the care of his parents .
