Transport Minister S’bu Ndebele has confirmed that about 20 passengers were injured when an Air Emirates’ flight crash-landed at the Durban International Airport last night.
However, the airline’s officials, ACSA and emergency personnel who were at the scene have refused to divulge the details of the accident. It is believed the Airbus A330 was flying from Dubai to Durban when it experienced difficulties due to a storm.
Ndebele says, “We want to congratulate Air Emirates, particularly the pilot that showed very great experience to weather the storm and be able to land safely. We want to also congratulate passengers that they were able to hold together in spite of a very scary situation and all of them landed safely in Durban.”
The Minister also said that from reports he received there were no serious injuries.
In an another incident, a South African Airways aircraft is being repaired after making an emergency landing at Cape Town International Airport last night. The airline’s spokesperson Vimla Maistry says the incident happened after the aircraft experienced technical problems.
