7 year old drowning accident

A 7 year old boy is fighting for his life in the Charlotte Maxeke hospital after a drowning accident in a complex pool in the Fourways area this afternoon. Details of how the child ended up in the pool is still a subject for investigation. An off- duty Opps medic found the boy floating in the pool. He immediately pulled the lifeless body out of the water and started CPR.

Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic Clair Smith arrived on scene and immediately placed the child on a heart monitor and ventilator. She administered advanced resuscitation drugs to which the child responded very well.

The Netcare 1 medical helicopter was called in with a trauma team on board. After they landed the child was placed in the care of a trauma doctor and then airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke hospital for further medical care.
