A 70 year old man was critically injured when he was caught under the wheels of a fuel tanker on the R560 Hekpoort road near Magalliesberg this morning. Exact details of the accident is still a subject for police investigation, however it is said that the tanker was pulling out from the filling station when somehow the elderly man was caught under the wheels and dragged for some distance.
Netcare 911 and provincial paramedics worked fervently to stabilize the critically wounded man. The Netcare 1 medical helicopter with a trauma doctor on board was called to airlift the patient to hospital, but sadly the gentleman died on scene due to the extensive injuries he had sustained in this horrific accident.
