Man arrested after driving over traffic cones at M2 accident scene

accident-m21

17 people were injured, 1 critically when the taxi they were traveling in overturned on the M2 in the Germiston area at around midday. Details of the accident is still speculative , however the fully laden taxi was traveling on the M2 South and just after the Denver turn- off ,the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned several times ejecting the passengers in the process.

Netcare 911 and provincial paramedics as well as Metro police arrived on scene within minutes of the call. After triaging the wounded they found that one person was critically injured, 4 others sustained serious injuries and miraculously 12 others escaped from the twisted remains with only minor injuries.

While paramedics worked fervently to stabilize all the injured the metro officers had their hands full to control the traffic on the north and south bound lanes of the M2. Although the area was cordoned off a gentleman in a bakkie drove over the traffic cones to try and get through the traffic. Officers were forced to arrest the man and remove him from the scene.

All the patients were transported to the Charlotte Maxeke, Natalspruit, Germiston and the Netcare Union hospitals for further medical treatment. The roadway was obstructed for more than 2 hours while emergency personnel worked to clear all the injured.
