It is suspected that the man lost consciousness prior to leaving the roadway. Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedics arrived on scene within minutes of receiving the call and found the critically wounded man still trapped in the mangled remains of his vehicle.
The vehicle started burning and with the help of a bystander the flames were extinguished. Firemen had to use the Jaws of Life to free the wounded man from the vehicle, while paramedics worked fervently to stabilize the patient.
The patient was loaded in an ambulance and transported to the Netcare Union hospital for further medical care. Sadly 2 hours after his arrival at hospital the gentleman died due to the extent of his injuries.
