A mother and her one year old daughter died and six others where injured in a horrific accident on the N12 near Daveyton this morning just after 05h00. Although exact details of the accident is still a subject for police investigation, it is believed that one of the vehicles lost control hurtled across the centre median and landed in front of oncoming traffic.
Netcare 911 paramedics and the emergency services arrived within minutes of receiving the call, the advanced life support paramedic started to triage the patients and was faced with a tragic sight. A mother and her one year old baby was still trapped in the crumpled remains of the bakkie, but had sadly died due the extent of their injuries.
The driver of the bakkie was in a critical condition, one person had serious injuries while 4 others had miraculously escaped with only minor injuries. Paramedics worked fervently to stabilize all the wounded before transporting them to nearby provincial hospitals for further medical care.
