Suspected drownings at Orange Farm

Two children between the age of 5 and 7 years old are missing and presumed to have drowned in the Rietspruit River at Orange Farm this afternoon. Details are still speculative but it is believed that a group of children was cooling off in the river when they were swept away by the strong current.

Netcare 911 Paramedics and the SAPS rescue units arrived on scene and a search along the river bed was launched. With the river flowing very strong after the rain last night the task was made very difficult.

Police rescue units and the fire services will continue the search efforts and medics are standing by to assist if required.
