Teenager resting on back seat injured in accident

A 16 year old sustained serious injuries after the car she was traveling in collided into the rear of a truck on the Van Reenen pass this afternoon. It is believed that the teenager was laying on the back seat and on impact she was flung forward uncontrollably, smashing her body into the back of the seats.

Netcare 911 paramedics from the Harrismith base arrived on scene and found that the girl sustained suspected spinal and head injuries. Paramedics stabilized the injured female and after immobilizing her on a trauma board she was transported to the Harrismith provincial hospital for further medical care.

The rest of the people in the care were uninjured in the accident.
