2 die as vehicle with young occupants is wrapped around tree

2 People died and two school boys were critically injured in an accident along Clydale road in the Springs area this afternoon. Although exact details of the accident will still be investigated by the police, it is believed that the Opel Corsa was traveling along Clydale road when the driver lost control. The vehicle hurtled across the road and slammed sideways into a large tree folding the car in half.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the fire services arrived on scene and found three occupants still trapped in the mangled wreckage while a 17 year old boy was ejected from the vehicle on impact, his body slamming into the ground some 50 meters from the crash site.

After triaging the patients paramedics found that the two people in the front of the vehicle died on impact, a 17 year old local boy was still trapped in the back of the car and in a critical condition. The patient that was ejected also sustained critical injuries .The Netcare 911 Medical helicopter with a trauma team on board and additional staff was mobilised to the crash site, while fireman battled for more than an hour to free the wounded boy from the mangled remains of the car.

Paramedics worked fervently to stabilize the critically injured children. One had to be placed on a ventilator and was airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke hospital in Johannesburg while the critically injured boy from Worcester in the Cape was transported to to the Pholosong hospital in Brakpan for further medical care.
