4×4 Training 2010 enters a new era in South Africa

4x4-convoy

After years of hard work 2 Unit Standards for 4×4 Driver Training was registered with the NQF(National Qualifications Framework) in the last quarter of 2009, which means that anyone who gives himself out as a 4×4 Instructor and school, need to be registered as a service provider with the relevant Seta. Then as service provider he must have trained facilitators/instructors to conduct the training, but also must have Assessors to assess the training by means of an open book test and a practical evaluation.

After this process the Assessor send the results to a Moderator who after moderation send the results to the SETA, who issues Driver Competency Certificates to successful trainees. For the first time training on the same standard right through South Africa will be possible and the certificates will be worth something.

Old certificates will be useless. However, someone who has done 4×4 training and are in possession of such certificate, won’t have to repeat the whole process, but can partake in the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) program. They must present proof of prior learning/training (certificate) and than must only do the practical tests and will than receive the new accredited certificate, if they pass the practical tests. When they make an appointment with an Assessor to be assessed on the RPL program, they will be told what the practical tests are and they can practice and prepare for it. From now on the insurance industry will no longer recognise certificates from the old process and not only will it influence your premium, but also the assessment of claims in “4×4’ situations.

A law will soon be passed where 4×4 route owners/operators, will ask for your “competency certificate” before you will be allowed to drive on that route.

Just 4×4 Adventures and Riverbank Offroad Academy has associated with African Offroad Academy, to nationally provide accredited 4×4 training. Just 4×4 Adventures are therefore the only accredited 4×4 Driver Training Service Provider in the Free State and Northern Cape, with qualified facilitators/instructors and an Assessor.
