6 metre wooden pole wedged through car in serious accident

Six people were injured, three critically, when their vehicle left Bellair Road near the Cato Manor Police station and collided with wooden fencing at the roadside.

A six metre long length of a wooden pole, similar to those used for telephone poles, was wedged in the car from front to back. Moreover a man walking on Bellair Road was hit by the spinning vehicle and was seriously injured.

It is thought that the pole’s passing through the passenger cabin lent to the critical injuries presented by three of the patients, all of which are fighting for their lives in area hospitals. All three sustained huge head trauma from the large pole and associated fractures, lacerations and abrasions from the accident.

The other three people in the car were lucky to escape relatively unscathed with only bumps and bruises.

All the injured were treated and stabilised by Netcare911 Paramedics at the scene before rushing them to hospitals in the immediate area for further care.
