Ballito cyclist fighting for his life after hit and run accident

A cyclist is fighting for his life in the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital after he was struck by a car on Ballito Drive late yesterday afternoon.

Evidence at the scene would suggest that an unknown vehicle had veered contra-flow into the oncoming lane and slammed into the man who had been riding towards Ballito itself.

The man sustained polytraumatic injuries and was intubated by Netcare911 Advanced Life Support Paramedic Shaun Paul before he was placed on a manual ventilator.

The Air Mercy Services Red Cross Helicopter was activated to airlift the critically injured cyclist to the Durban Hospital for emergency interventions.
