Boy (5) critically injured after being hit by a car

A five-year-old boy is in a critical but stable condition in the Netcare Umhlanga Hospital after he was hit by a bakkie while riding his bicycle on an estate road within the Umhlali Country Club this afternoon.

It is alleged that the boy had been riding at the roadside near the pavement when he was struck. He sustained head and neck trauma, as well as injuries to his chest, abdomen and pelvis. He was treated and stabilised at the scene by Netcare911 Paramedic Advanced Life Support Paramedic Norman Luddick before the Netcare3 Aeromedical Helicopter was activated to airlift the child to hospital.

Meanwhile two teenage boys are in a serious but stable condtions’ in Durban Hospitals after they were struck by cars in two separate incidences yesterday.

In the first incident a 13-year-old boy was struck by a Datsun bakkie on Price Street near Addington Hospital this afternoon. It is thought that the boy had run into the road after his friends without looking for oncoming traffic.

He sustained possible spinal and head injuries, as well as soft tissue wounds to his lower legs.

Later a 17-year-old boy was hit by a motorbike while crossing Albert Street near the Park.

Both were treated by Netcare911 Paramedics at the scene before they were taken by ambulance to Durban hospitals.
