Horror M4 Ruth First smash claims life and critically injures woman

A man was killed and a woman was critically injured when the vehicle they were travelling collided with concrete roadside barriers on the M4 Ruth First Freeway near Broadway in the early hours of this morning. After colliding with the barrier the vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest in the middle of the road.

It is thought that the couple had been travelling towards Durban when the driver lost control of the Volvo while negotiating a bend. The car spun out and slammed into the reinforced concrete piling before spinning through the air, ejecting both occupants.

Netcare911 Paramedics found both lying prostrate in the road. The man was declared dead while Netcare911 Advanced Life Support Paramedic Brian Adams rushed to the aid of the woman. He intubated and placed her on a manual ventilator before she was rushed by ambulance to Addington Hospital for further emergency care.

She remains in a critical condition.
