A game reserve says traffic officers humiliated two guests by calling them “too fat” at a weighbridge. Management at Aquila Private Game Reserve, near Touws River, said its van was operating “within the restrictions of its permit” on Sunday.

The reserve’s Toyota Quantum, licensed to carry 13 passengers and the driver, was transporting 10 passengers when it was pulled over at a weighbridge.

An officer allegedly said the passengers should have been weighed before they were allowed on.

Aquila group general manager Desmond Lubbe said: “That is plain discrimination.”

One of the officers, Jurie Brand, denied having said the people were too fat and insisted that the vehicle was overloaded. – [Written by Staff Reporter, The Star]
