Policeman injured in Southern freeway snarl up

accident-m41

An off-duty policeman was seriously injured when the car he was driving slammed into roadside concrete barriers on the M4 Southern Freeway near the M7 Edwin Swales turn-off, Jacobs this evening.

It is thought that the driver lost control of his BMW and veered into the temporary barriers protecting road works on the carriageway. The luxury German sedan laid waste to the barriers, forcing two to topple over and obstruct the fast lane.

The man sustained serious injuries and Netcare911 Paramedics, and those of the Specialised Rescue Unit, carefully extricated the man from the crumpled remains of the car. He was treated and stabilised at the scene before being transported by ambulance to the Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital in Durban for further care.
