A head-on collision between two heavy goods trucks this morning at around 04:30 on the N3 about 50 kilometers outside Villiers left one person dead and another seriously injured. Exact details to the cause of the accident remain a mystery and will be investigated by the police.
When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on scene the crumpled remains of both trucks obstructed all the lanes of the highway. Both vehicles burst into flames on impact and were engulfed in flames when emergency personnel arrived on scene. The driver of the one truck sadly died in the inferno and his passenger escaped with serious injuries. It is unclear at this stage what happened to the occupants of the other truck as fireman are still battling the blaze.
The seriously injured patient was stabilised on scene and then transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
