Two men critically injured in Rinaldo Road snarl up

Two people were critically injured when a bakkie and a heavy goods truck collided in the intersection of North Coast and Rinaldo Roads this afternoon.

It is thought that the bakkie had been turning right into Rinaldo Road when the truck, bound for KwaMashu, slammed into the double cab. Both vehicles veered from the road and the truck downed a light pole before coming to rest at the curb. The bakkie spun out-of-control and two passengers were ejected when the front door flung open.

They were found nearly 50 metres from the point of impact in a critical condition. Both sustained severe head and chest trauma and Netcare911 Paramedics managed to treat and stabilise them at the roadside before they were transported by ambulance to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital for definitive medical attention.
