Five people were killed in a collision between a truck and a car in the Free State, paramedics said on Sunday.
Details were unclear of how the 18-wheeler truck collided with the car on the R70 between Senekal and Ventersburg late on Saturday night, said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.
Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 23:00 and found three men and two women dead in the car. “Most of the occupants were unrecognisable and sustained multiple fatal injuries,” said Vermaak.
The truck overturned and the car “was completely ripped apart”, he said.
The truck driver was taken to a hospital in Welkom with moderate injuries.
