A driver and his conductor have sustained serious injuries after the truck they were travelling in over turned on Crompton Street, completely blocking Scott street for motorist to gain entry into this evening.

ER24 and Pinetown Fire Department were amongst the first to arrive on the scene. They were confronted with an articulated truck that was lying on its side with the cargo embedded into the tree. The driver and passenger were mechanically entrapped inside the cabin. Fire Department used specialised equipment to gain access to the cabin so paramedics could get in to help treat the two patients.

The driver was the first to be extricated, he had suffered injuries to his shoulder, head and possible back. The passenger had suffered neck, back and pelvis injuries. They were stabilised further before been transported to a hospital in the greater Durban area.

It is unclear what caused the truck driver to lose control around the corner but the accident caused the cargo bin to rip open and for diesel to run onto the road. The necessary people were called in to help with the cleanup. Crompton would be closed for a few hours until salvaging has been done.
