The Pedal Power Association says there has been a marked increase in accidents involving cyclists.
Thousands of cyclists descended on the Western Cape in recently to train for the Cape Argus/Pick ’n Pay Cycle Tour race which was held last Sunday.
The influx also resulted in a noticeable increase in accidents involving cyclists.
In the most recent incident, renowned cycling star Willie Engelbrecht was hit by a truck while mountain biking in the Vissershok area earlier this week.
Just a week before the cycling race, three people were killed after a bakkie ploughed into a group of cyclists in Oudtshoorn.
In a third incident, a motorist who was allegedly driving drunk crashed into a group of cyclists near Hermanus, leaving one person seriously injured.
The Pedal Power Association says it is usually inundated with complaints from motorists and cyclists alike over each other’s behaviour on the roads.
