A mother and her two children aged one month and five years have been injured in a collision at the intersection of Stanger and Somsute road in the Durban CBD area this afternoon.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find two light motor vehicles had been involved in the collision. ER24 paramedics rushed to the first car to find the mother and her two children injured. The one month old baby was found seated in the back of the car with the five year old. They had suffered minor lacerations and needed specialised equipment to remove them from the vehicle due to the impact. The mother had suffered possible neck and back injuries and needed advanced life support intervention. All three patients were transported by road to EThekwini Hospital for further medical care in a serious but stable condition.

The occupants of the other vehicle were treated by other emergency services on the scene and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.

It is unclear who was at fault but Metro police were on the scene and will be investigating the accident.
