Durban ( Queensburgh ) M7 West Bound.

A driver had a narrow escape after the bakkie he was travelling in crashed into a sign board in the centre medium of the M7 this morning.

ER24 arrived on the scene to find the bakkie in the centre medium up against a sign board. Emergency personnel had to block the far right hand lane of M7 west bound due to the location of the vehicle and making it dangerous to paramedics to work.

The driver was found in the vehicle and complaining of severe pains to chest region. The patient was treated for possible chest injuries as well as neck and back injuries. He was stabilised on the scene and transported to Life Entabeni Hospital for further medical care.

It is believed that the driver was travelling along the M7 east bound when a metal pipe fell off the back of a truck. The driver could not avoid the object and drove over it causing the vehicle to lose control and veer off the road. If it was not for the sign board, the vehicle would have gone through the centre medium and crashed into oncoming traffic.
