A 10-man gang of robbers shot at the tyres and windows of a cash-in-transit van in Rivonia on Wednesday, but got away with nothing, Gauteng police said.
The gang attacked the Group 4 cash van with four security guards inside on the N1 north freeway near the Rivonia road offramp, said Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.
He said the robbers were travelling in a Volvo, a Mercedes-Benz and a BMW. They abandoned a Nissan Hardbody on the scene.
Dlamini said it was not clear why the robbers fled.
