One person died after being struck by a goods train near Bloemhof on Friday night, North West police said on Saturday.
The identity and gender of the person was unknown because the body was badly disfigured, said spokesperson Captain Adele Myburgh.
The train driver told authorities he applied brakes but could not stop in time, said Myburgh.
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
