Two people are in a critical condition, another eight have sustained serious injuries and eight more have sustained minor to moderate injuries after a taxi collided into a truck on Old Main road near the M13 Fields Hill this afternoon.

Er24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find Old Main road leaving Pinetown closed to traffic and making motorists dive on the opposite side of the road with Metro Police assistants. A taxi was lying on its roof up against a truck in the middle of the road.

Patients were found lying on the pavement and in the centre medium of the Old Main road. Two patients started to become critical due to the severity of their injuries and needed Advanced Life Support intervention. Eight other commuters had suffered broken arms and legs and severe pains to back and neck regions. The remaining commuter had suffered minor lacerations and abrasions and were able to walk to the ambulance. All patients were treated on the scene and transported to various hospitals in the greater Durban area.

It is unclear what caused the taxi to overturn and crash into the truck but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident.
