Five people have been injured after the truck they were travelling in over turned on the R603 near Van Garage this afternoon.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find the truck and trailer lying on its side. The accident caused both directions for traffic to come to a halt due to the fact the truck was lying across the road and its load which is bricks were scattered across the road.
All five patients were found lying on the side of the road, near the accident. Four patients were treated for serious injuries, while the fifth was treated for minor to moderate injuries. They were stabilised on the scene and transported to various hospitals in the Pietermaritzburg area for further medical care.
It is unclear how the accident occurred but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident. Traffic was slow moving and needed the grass verge to get by the accident after patients were transported to hospital.
