Family vehicle overturns trying to avoid cyclist near Franschhoek

Medicare EMR attended to a MVA last night in stormy wet weather, a family of 7 were leaving Franschhoek on the R45 in heavy rain when they swerved to avoid hitting a cyclist. They subsequently lost control of the vehicle and aquaplaned across into oncoming traffic. Luckily they missed the oncoming cars and hit the side of the road flipping their car over into a ditch whereby the flipped a further two times.

The driver and front seat passenger sustained multiple injuries and were in a critical condition upon leaving the scene in the care of an ALS paramedic from Metro, while the 3 remaining adults and two children that were seated in the rear of the vehicle all sustained spinal injuries and various other soft tissue injuries. The rest of the patients excluding the youngest little girl was transported by Metro Ambulance, whilst the little girl was transported by ER24 under the care of an ALS Paramedic.
