A man to be in his early thirty’s has sustained serious injuries after the truck he was travelling in overturned on the N2 on ramp from the M7 this morning.

ER24 paramedics and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find the tanker lying on its side up against the embankment. Diesel and used oil were pouring out of the tanks that had been damaged, causing it to go across the road.

The driver was found a few meters from the wreckage in a serious condition. He had sustained possible neck and back injuries and needed advanced life support intervention before paramedics could move him. The patient was stabilised on the scene and transported to Addington Hospital for further medical care.

It is believed that the truck may have had a mechanical problem while coming down the M7. The driver who was concerned about hitting other vehicles, tried to take the on ramp to the N2 but with the weight of the tanker caused it to overturn.

All necessary authorities were on the scene. the on ramp would be closed to traffic for a few hours while clean up operations were underway.
