What do you need to know about the yield line at a pedestrian crossing?

The Arrive Alive Website received the following request for assistance:

“I hope you will be able to assist, a friend of mine failed her drivers test because she stopped over the broken line at a pedestrian crossing but before the actual pedestrian crossing..Can they do this, as far as i know you are allowed to stop over a broken line if you want to yield someone? Can you please give me feedback as the people at the licensing department cant give me an answer…?

We would like to share this information:

The Yield Line Marking indicates to a vehicle – that is yielding to other vehicles or to pedestrians – the point where the vehicle must stop (i.e. before the broken line).
