Two girls aged between eight and ten years old have been knocked down by a light motor vehicle at the corners of Westcliff and Railview road in Chatsworth while waiting outside their school this morning.

ER24 arrived on the scene to find the one girl lying in on the pavement, while the second girl was found seated next to her comforting her friend. The girl lying down was treated for possible neck injuries and needed specialised equipment to help protect her back. The other friend sustained minor injuries. Both pupils were taken to Life Chatsworth Hospital for further medical care.

The driver who did not sustain any injuries was detained by metro police officers on the scene for questioning.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of his car but paramedics are just grateful that there was no fatalities on the scene.
