A 30-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after the car he was a passenger in crashed into the back of a truck in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.
ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said the driver of a light weight motor vehicle, who was not injured in the incident, lost control and crashed into the back of a stationary truck along the Sweetwaters Road.
He said the passenger sustained head injuries and was put into a manual ventilator before being taken to a nearby hospital.
He was trapped inside the wreckage of the car and fire-fighters had to use jaws of life to free him.
