Taxi Bursts Into Flames After Collision

dscn0683

A minibus taxi burst into flames after it collided into a bakkie, at the intersection of Carl Cronje Drive and Mispel Street, in Tygervalley.

Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after the incident occurred and the taxi was already well alight. The driver, who was the only occupant of the taxi, was already out of the vehicle. He sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Tygerberg Hospital.

The bakkie was wedged up against a traffic light and the driver was stuck in the vehicle. A tow-truck used its winch to force open the drivers side door to free the driver. He sustained minor injuries but declined being transported to hospital.

When the Fire Department arrived on the scene they extinguished the fire within minutes. The cause of the incident is unknown at this stage.
