Truck Causes Chaos On The M19

m19-23-july-2010-1

Four people including a truck driver have luckily escaped with only minor injuries after an articulated truck lost control and crashed through a intersection on the M19 near the N2 off ramp, into a bakkie and then into two stationary cars that were parked in a property of an engineering company before crashing through the wall of the company coming to stop inside an office.

ER24 and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the articulated truck completely wedged into the factory. The driver of the truck had been taken out of the vehicle by workers in the factory. He had sustained minor lacerations and abrasions to his legs and hands.

Three occupants of the bakkie, who had the narrowest escape of them all, were lucky enough to walk away with minor injuries. A worker from the factory was treated for shock but did not need further medical care. All the injured were stabilised and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

It is believed that were the truck came to rest, the lady that works in that office was running late this morning. If she had been in the office at the time of the incident, it is sure there would have been a fatality.

It is believed that the driver was coming down the N2 and had taken the glide off to the M19 when he started to have mechanical problems. He was unable to control the truck causing him to lose control and go through the intersection.

Traffic was severely affected for more than 1 km due to this accident.
