A bakkie and a truck collided on the N7 near the Philadelphia turnoff this morning. The truck allegedly attempted to make a U-turn in thick mist when the bakkie traveling in the direction of Cape Town collided with the trailer.
ER24 paramedics on the scene explained that the bakkie was stuck under the trailer of the truck with two people still inside.

The passenger of the bakkie had to be cut out of the mangled vehicle. The driver however was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. The passenger had sustained multiple injuries to his lower extremities and abdominal area.

Paramedics on the scene stabilized the patient and transported him three kilometers down the road out of the thick mist where a landing zone had been prepared for the Medicopter. The ER24 Discovery Medicopter then airlifted the driver to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

The exact cause of the collision will be investigated. ER24 caution commuters to take extra care when driving on roads that are affected by mist.
