Johannesburg Emergency Services officials said on Saturday three people have been killed and 17 others were injured after a taxi overturned on the N12 near the Lenasia Road off-ramp.

The accident is being investigated but initial indications show that one of the vehicle’s tyres burst, causing the taxi to roll several times.

Traffic in the area is still heavily affected.

It comes just hours after a taxi accident near Laingsburg on the N1 in the Western Cape left 21 people dead.

It is believed that taxi driver tried to overtake a vehicle and then crashed head-on into an oncoming truck.
