Initially, one car had overturned on the N3 which seems to have caused a further eight cars to slam into each other near Umlaas Road.
ER24 paramedics said that the first accident happened shortly after 18h30 this evening, and not too long after that they were called for an eight car pile up in almost the same location. It is believed that the initial car which overturned fortunately left no casualties, but other motorists were so busy trying to have a look at the first accident that they ended up causing a secondary accident.
Eight cars managed to slam into one another, landing up in the center island of the highway. When paramedics descended on the scene, all of the vehicle occupants were out of their cars, inspecting the damage. Six people had sustained moderate injuries and were placed on back boards to protect their necks and backs, and were transported by awaiting ambulances to nearby hospitals. The patients comprised of men and women of various ages between thirty and fifty years old.
The accident will be investigated by the necessary officials.
