Nine people were killed and two others were left with multiple injuries in yet another horror taxi accident. It is understood that an 18-wheeler truck smashed into the taxi on the R57 between Sasolburg and Heilbron shortly after 22:00 this evening.

Paramedics from ER24 that arrived on the scene described it as a horror scene as people were lying scattered across the highway. Most of the occupants were flung from the taxi as it was torn to pieces during the crash. Two men were found alive between the bodies and treated on the scene before being rushed off to a nearby provincial hospital for further medical treatment. Both of them sustained multiple injuries.

Emergency care workers explained that some of the people cannot even be recognised due to the injuries they have sustained. Bystanders on the scene explained to paramedics that the truck crashed into the taxi ripping it to pieces.
The driver of the truck was assessed by paramedics on scene, but was found with no visible injuries and only in shock.

Emergency care workers and law enforcement officials are currently on the scene. The exact cause for the accident will be investigated.
