One person was killed and another is in a serious condition after a horrific accident on the R45 Wemershoek road near Paarl this morning. It is unclear as to how exactly the collision occurred, but it involved three vehicles.

Allegedly two of the vehicles, a Bakkie and a small passenger vehicle, collided head on. A third vehicle then drove into the accident but sustained only minor damage.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene Metro rescue services were already hard at work cutting the wrecked passenger vehicle to free the driver. The passenger of the vehicle, a female, was declared dead at the scene. No occupant of the Bakkie or third vehicle had sustained any injuries.

After the Driver was extricated out of the vehicle he was transported to Paarl Mediclinic for stabilization. The crews then informed the ER24 Discovery Medicopter which was standing by at the hospital to airlift the badly injured man to Cape Gate Mediclinic. The patient had sustained significant injuries to his head and lower extremities.
