A man and wife travelling in a truck this morning on the N3 near Nottingham road offramp have been seriously injured after being side swiped by another truck.
It is unclear as to how the accident actually happened, but it is thought that the heavy mist in the area may have played a part. ER24 paramedics at the scene believe that the truck carrying frozen chicken pieces was travelling quite slowly in the left hand lane of the highway when the second truck came past. The two trucks then connected, and the first truck’s right side was literally ripped open. The whole rear compartment was exposed, and the cargo as well as pieces of metal were strew across the road.
Both trucks then continued a short distance together before veering onto the side of the highway and coming to rest upon the embankment. The driver of the first truck, believed to be in his early fifties, and his wife, in her mid thirties, were removed from the truck’s front cabin and loaded into waiting ambulances. They had suffered serious injury, but paramedics said that they were lucky to be alive after having been involved in an accident of this nature. They were both transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition.
The driver of the second truck was left physically uninjured, and he refused transportation to hospital by ambulance, requesting later private transport if the need arose.
Local authorities attended the scene. Fortunately, traffic was not severely affected at the time. ER24 encourages road users to be more aware of others on the road, especially in bad weather conditions.
