The accident between a bus and a truck could have been far worse, but fortunately, only two people sustained very minor injuries only.
It is unclear as to how the accident happened, but an articulated truck, carrying two closed containers and a trailer, collided head on into the bus, causing the truck to overturn and block off all the lanes of the N3 near Peacevale in Pietermaritzburg.
The bus was transporting approximately 80 women and children home from what was believed to have been a Church gathering. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, they quickly assessed all the patients, and were relatively surprised to see that only two small children, aged 3 and 5, had sustained small cuts to their foreheads from the glass that had shattered around them. The rest of the women and children were left uninjured.
The driver and passenger of the truck, were no where to be found at the scene. Their injuries are unknown.
It is believed that the N3 will be closed for a couple of hours for clean up operations.
