Tragedy has once again struck as a car and minibus taxi collided on Van Guard Drive at the N2 in Cape Town.

ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene of a serious accident that had occurred at around 11:30 last night. When they arrived at the scene, a minibus taxi was lying on it’s right side, having rolled over after the suspected impact. Not too far away was a Hyundai sedan, which had been existentially damaged on it’s front end.

It is believed that the sedan crashed into the left side of the minibus as it was crossing through the intersection.  As it rolled onto it’s right hand side, two women were ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics said that when they arrived, the two were still underneath the taxi, and they were sadly deceased due to multiple injuries.

A father and his fourteen year old son were travelling in the sedan, and they sustained moderate to minor injuries. They were removed from the scene by and ER24 ambulance.

The six other commuters in the minibus, and the driver, were found to be walking around on scene, or lying somewhere near the damaged taxi. They were quickly assessed by paramedics, and found to have sustained moderate injuries. They were treated accordingly before being transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

It seems that the eight occupants of the taxi were being transported home from work when the accident occurred.

The local Police attended the scene, and they will need to investigate the exact cause of the accident. It will also be their duty to notify the families of the two women who were deceased.
