Man In Serious Condition After Car Crash

cape-town-20101106-00076
A man thought to be in his fifties lost control of his car while on his way home from work this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics, along with the Metro Rescue arrived on the scene to find the light motor vehicle had left the Jan Smuts Road and crashed into a tree outside the Pinelands SAPS station.

The driver who was entrapped in the vehicle needed the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment in order to be extricated. While Metro Rescue was extricating the man from the vehicle, ER24 paramedics were inside the vehicle treating his injuries and stabilising him further. The patient was entrapped for almost an hour due to the impact into the tree. The driver was finally freed and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care in a serious but stable condition.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle but the local SAPS were on the scene and would investigate the incident further.
