A twenty five year old woman is in a serious condition after being knocked down by a bakkie on Underwood Road, just outside Pinetown this morning.

ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene and found the woman lying on the pavement, with the bakkie stationary just a few meters away from the scene. Paramedics assessed the patient and found that she had suffered a possible head injury and a break to her right arm. Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed on the patient by means of giving the patient pain medication. The patient was placed on specialised equipment to protect her neck and back before being transported to R K Khans hospital in a serious but stable condition for further medical care.

It is believed that the woman, who was walking to work, was crossing the street, when she seems to have misjudged the bakkie approaching from the opposite direction. The driver tried to swerve out of the way but caught her on the left side of the vehicle.

Metro Police were in attendance and would investigate the incident further.
